Grade 5 - Heritage & Identity - First Nations

With such amazing success in exploring the grade 4 curriculum, it was the next natural progression in the company to explore the grade 5 social studies curriculum. Just like the other curriculum workshops, the grade 5 sessions are just as interactive, entertaining and memorable. These workshops will explore the impact of exploration between First Nations and the European explorers and all the aspects that go along with it. The curriculum can be explored through two different workshops, which you can learn more about by clicking on one of the images below.

Utilizing the popular 'game show' format that the Knights in the Classroom are famous for, students will act as a team representing their entire school "competing" against the other schools we visit during the year. This adds an interesting team-building element to our workshops and also allows us to cover all of the elements of the Character Matters curriculum: respect, responsibility, empathy, honesty, fairness, initiative, perseverance, courage, integrity and optimism. Students are awarded points based on their answers, can gain bonus points for creative thinking and taking risks, but are never penalized for an incorrect answer. However, should any bullying or non-chivalrous behaviour take place, points may be subtracted. This programme covers the curriculum fully, utilizing multimedia elements as well as hands-on components, physical activities, artifact exploration and includes an optional archery demonstration.

This is a full day event that features four teacher selected 1-hour workshops and is designed to potentially integrate the entire Junior division. Choose from a wide variety of workshops that explore different aspects of the grade 4, 5 and/or 6 curriculum. There is even programming that also explores the grade 3 social studies curriculum.This programme is customized to your school's time schedule. The day ends with a recreation of the Tournament as a culminating activity featuring highlights of the day's events as well as a historical martial arts demonstration or fencing demonstration. This workshop is designed for groups of up to 120 students.
