F.A.Q. - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where do you do your workshops?
A: Wherever you are! We travel to you. All of our workshops are conducted onsite unless you book our virtual workshops.
Q: What sort of space do you require?
A: This depends on the workshop you choose. Most often we require the gym, at least half for half-day presentations such as our specific grade level game shows. For the full-day Festival we will require several spaces such as both sides of a large gym, library and other large open spaces. Some workshops can be conducted in classrooms. Each workshop has its particular specifications. See the specific programme page for more details.
Q: How many students can take part in a workshop?
A: This again depends on the workshop. Here is a simple guideline for you:
Q: Do you offer programming beyond grade 4 social studies?
A: Yes! We offer half and full-day workshops for grades 1 through 8. We also have an array of programming for high school level students. Explore the site to learn more.
Q: What is your pricing?
A: We offer a time-of-year pricing policy. We offer lower rates for bookings during off-peak times, September through December. Our rates reach their normal range for bookings January through the end of June. We do offer multiple booking discounts for schools that bring us in more than once in a year. We also create custom packages to meet individual needs. We do pride ourselves on having the best price available in the market and regularly survey the competition to ensure that fact.
Q: You are a charity, does that mean all your programmes are free?
A: No, it doesn't mean the programmes are automatically free. We seek out grants, bursaries, funding, etc. to enable us to bring our programming places at no charge. That is the end goal. However, there is a lot of competition for grants and it takes time to accumulate funding. In the meantime, anyone interested in our programmes is welcome to seek out sponsorship. This means schools, camps, community groups, etc., can seek out local individuals or businesses and see if they will sponsor our visit. The generous sponsor pays for our visit through cheque or e-transfer and specifies in their communication that they want to sponsor a specific programme at a specific location. The sponsor gets a charitable tax receipt for their kindness as well as any agreed upon promotional benefit. Then the programme is at no charge to that location or group.
Q: Do you do workshops for groups other than schools?
A: Yes! We are happy to customize something for any group. We regularly conduct sessions at seniors homes, summer camps, libraries and for various community groups. As long it is within the spectrum of our charitable designation, we are happy to be of service.
Q: Will you travel anywhere?
A: We do our best to service any area. However, travel beyond the GTA does require a travel fee be charged. You can see a map featured on our pricing page where you can see the specific fee based on the area of the booking.
Q: Are the swords real?
A: Yes. All the equipment we bring is real. The swords are not sharp and the equipment is not from the historical times we are exploring (otherwise they would be rust or dust), we bring accurate historical reproductions. The swords are safe representations of the time period with the same engineering and weight. All equipment is handled with the safe supervision of our staff at all times.
Q: Why should someone choose the Knights in the Classroom over the competition?
A: We are the only group to offer onsite programming that thoroughly enhances and explores the curriculum. We employ the best possible instructors who are either retired educators or specialists in their field. We are also the only group of this nature that offers historical martial arts and Olympic fencing demonstrations. We offer the most accurate, tactile, and relevant programming available. We bring artifacts and experiences that are second to none. We don't put foam swords in kids hands, we don't wrap them up like mummies, we don't present a choreographed 'battle' and pass it off as real. With the Knights in the Classroom it is as real as it gets. We are also part of a charitable education company, which means our mission is to further education with a focus on safety and inclusivity. For more information please check out our Testimonials page.
Q: Will you offer virtual programming after the pandemic is over?
A: Yes. With the success of our virtual programming we have decided to keep them as part of our roster of workshops for areas of the province that are not easy to travel to or for any other reason a school, group or facility might inquire.

- Full-day Festival - full-day - 60 to 120 students (there are some limitations depending on the 4 sessions chosen)
- Historical Dance - half or full-day - 40 to 50 students per session. A half-day workshop is normally 3 sessions, a full-day workshop is normally 6 sessions.
- Fencing 101 - half or full-day - 20 students per session based on how much equipment we can transport. A half-day workshop is normally 3 sessions, a full-day workshop is normally 6 sessions. This can be customized to fit your needs. Sessions can be longer, thus we would have fewer sessions per day.
- Drumming from Around the World - half or full-day - 30 students per session based on how much equipment we can bring.
