Fencing 101
Due to popular demand, the Knights in the Classroom are now offering half and full-day fencing workshops. They are still offering Fencing as part of their full-day Festival events.
Guided by an experienced fencer, students are given the opportunity to use proper Olympic style fencing equipment and try this amazing sport! Jackets, gloves, masks, sabres and chest protectors are included. Teachers are encouraged to take part as well! All equipment is fully sterilized between uses. Long pants and proper footwear are required as well as a waiver must be signed for every participant. Participants will get a chance to learn the history of the sport, proper technique, safety protocols, footwork as well as how the equipment functions. A variety of activities, drills and games are included to aid in learning this amazing skill. There is, of course, the chance to duel one another.
Safety is our #1 concern at all our workshops and no unsafe behaviour will be tolerated. Waivers must be signed for each participant.
This presentation touches upon a great many areas of the curriculum: the obvious physical education element included. Fencing is a sport that has been a part of military training for generations and is still taught today. This presentation is customized to the grade level of the students taking part. It is available for students in grade 4 and up.
