Grade 6 - Heritage & Identity - Communities in Canada
The Knights in the Classroom are now exploring the grade 6 social studies curriculum due to popular demand. With such amazing success in exploring the grade 4 curriculum, it was the next natural progression in the company. And just like the other curriculum workshops, the grade 6 sessions are just as interactive, entertaining and memorable.
These workshops will explore the impact that early societies had on the development of Canada. The curriculum can be explored through two different workshops, which you can learn more about by clicking on one of the images below. If you are not aware, we employ a time of year pricing policy. We reward teachers who are willing to book us earlier in the school year with significant discounts. |
The Grade 6 Communities in Canada Game Show is unlike any other programme the Knights in the Classroom offer. It is an amazing immersive experience that allows students to explore the curriculum like never before.
Students are divided into eight teams that are seated around large floor maps which have been hand-painted to represent a larger geographic area (all maps combine to create one large country like area). Teams start by choosing a leader, scribe and herald and then the game begins! Utilizing multimedia components, teams are questioned about their knowledge of the curriculum and gain components to be added to their map during the workshop. Then teams must place their objects on their maps with careful consideration as well as interact with other teams bringing various aspects of community to life. During the event the teams will deal with local wildlife, nature, and First Nations. There are challenges, technological advancements, potential for warfare and much more. It has been likened to "RISK meets Settlers of Catan" on a huge scale. Feedback has been tremendous! If there is time, the workshop culminates with a fencing demonstration conducted by our instructors. This showcases the skills that many of the colonists would have had when they arrived in Canada. This workshop is designed for groups of up to 80 students. This workshop is three-hours in length. REQUEST A QUOTE |
